MARSEILLE: Five people were killed Friday after two army training helicopters crashed into each other near a lake in southern France, police said, one of the deadliest such accidents involving the country's armed forces in recent years.
It is located near the National Nature Reserve of the Plaine des Maures, at the foot of the Massif des Maures, not far from the gorges of the Verdon and about thirty kilometers from the famous seaside resort of Saint-Tropez. Populated since the end of the High Middle Ages, the town passes over the centuries in the hands of many lordships before taking its full independence. Even today, it enjoys an important tourist aura because of its ideal geographical location to discover the tourist and natural sites of the region. Its historical heritage and typical Provencal architecture also attract visitors from all walks of life. Listed as a historic monument, the hexagonal tower dates from the first half of the 16th century.
