The release of Destiny 2: Forsaken will bring about some key changes to matchmaking — including Guided Games — as well as a shakeup to the clan rewards structure. Bungie has revealed a couple of decent upgrades the matchmaking and Guided Games experience in Destiny 2 will be getting with Forsaken. There are some exceptions to this, like lopsided PvP matches, or ones that ended with a mercy rule. In both cases, teams will be scrambled as they currently do.

Destiny's six-person Raid, called Vault of Glass, does not feature the option for matchmaking with strangers - a controversial decision the developer took because it wanted players to plan and tackle the tougher mission with friends. At the time Bungie writer Luke Smith said he could "understand everyone's frustration about the decision So, what's to be done? In the latest Bungie Weekly Update community chief David "Deej" Dague said the developer was trying to work that out right now. It's something we helped to pioneer. Yet, we understand its limitations. In the recipe of a Bungie game, Matchmaking has always contributed the ingredient of a team built to play one match of competitive multiplayer.

Just a day before launch, Massive has confirmed that the 8-player raid, the first of its kind, will not have in-game matchmaking. The player who creates the raid group from the social menu is the designated raid leader, and as such, is the only player who can begin the raid. Many players were not expecting that this raid would require matchmaking given that…everything else in the history of The Division 1 and 2 has had matchmaking.
